When I think about the vanishing bees, I worry about what that is going to do to how plants get pollinated. Bees play an important role in sustaining human life and as we see with climate change, the loss of bees is in our near future. There was this one episode of a Netflix series called Black Mirror. In this episode the world has lost all their bees and tech company made mechanical bees to continue pollenating. It was an interesting solution to a problem we may face in the near future. I think the issue behind the vanishing bees needs to be taken more seriously and people need to be more aware about the severity.
Looking at San Bernardino County there are roughly 1,608 factory farms. These factories have mostly cows and produce dairy products. I was not aware of that many factory farms being in the county and seeing this number doesn't surprise me. I remember growing up and going to a farm for a freshly slaughtered goat. Tanzanian culture has a tradition where the slaughtering and cooking of a goat for celebrations that range from marriage, confirmations, graduations and so on. I am not 100% sure that these farms my family would get their goat to be a factory.
Yes, I currently compost in my apartment and do my best to utilize my compost bin. Growing up in Southern California it is not normal nor had I ever thought about composting my food scraps. We would just through everything into one trash, only separating the recyclables. Since moving to San Francisco, I like composting and would continue to do so anywhere I chose to live. In the future I would hope to use my compost as fertilizer for a garden in my yard.

Watching about the vanishing bees, I thought of the same episode of Black Mirror. But it feels like we are already trying to think of a solution to replace bees as opposed to trying to keep and cultivate the bees that we have to remedy situation. Maybe it is too far gone, but maybe it is not.
ReplyDeleteI don't even know what a composting bin looks like:(( I have a recycle bin if that counts! I always have recycled but I should get into composting. I wouldn't know what to do with my scraps because I don't have a garden. I think every apartment complex or house should have a recycling bin, compost bin, and trash bin. In, France they have them why can't we?
